Nowerdays it has never been so difficult to make the right choices with regard to our food. We are bombarded which ever way we turn by health warnings, chemicals and welfare issues, what is best?
The truth is only you can make that decision. In the past I was a massive sceptic with regard to organic and free range produce. I used to believe that it was a big con for the supermarkets to make a fast buck at our expese with no benefit to us the end consumer. How wrong I was, I visited a farmers market it a nearby village and purchased a few vegetables for the meal I was cooking, The taste of this organically grown produce were amazing it was well worth the few pence I paid more. My love affair with organic produce has blossomed since then. We now eat organic meat and poultry from our local butcher, organic local vegetables from our greengrocer and fair trade produce wherever possible.
Many people may argue that it is all well and good that I spout off about organic produce, but the cost implications are great. Possibly, I am not going to say that organic produce is cheaper than the supermarket's but the additional cost is limited when we consider the benefit to our health and to the environment that these crops not being sprayed with the pesticides and insecticides. Also in particular with organic meat you can usually use a cheaper cut of meat than you would normally use and achieve the same results. Or should I say that when buying from a supermarket, you are going to need to choose a more expensive cut to achieve the same results.
