Beach Hut Barbie's

Beach huts are very English. They provide necessary shelter when the great British summer does what it normally does, stays 2 degrees above freezing and pelts it down with rain. But does it offer any benefits for the traveling cook?

Beach huts do not have running water, electricity or sewage so what can you do?

Majority of the major supermarkets sell pre-packed ribs, chicken and burgers ready for the barbecue, however if you want some home (or beach hut) cooked food here are some handy hints to help you on your way.

  1. Make sure you are allowed to cook on the beach. Some local authorities have banned barbecuing on the beach as it could be a fire hazard
  2. Invest in a good quality cold box with plenty of ice packs. Many hotels and camp site offer a free chilling service for the ice packs.
  3. Make a good marinade. Things that work well are fresh herbs, lemons, soy sauce, limes, and garlic.
  4. Find a good local butcher and get you meat fresh on the day of the barbecue. You wont be able to refrigerate it so make sure its fresh.
  5. Make sure you take all the equipment you need. Disposable barbecues are great for barbecuing on the beach without the need to move hot equipment around.
